In this article we focus on 4 common myths about Dallas Prom DJ companies. There are many companies out there claiming to be the best in entertaining students for homecoming dances and proms in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The best way to determine if this DJ or company is best for your school is to have them come and show their skills in person to your committee.

Myth #1; Great YouTube Videos Mean Great Fun!

Highlight video footage on YouTube or Vimeo is just that… HIGHLIGHTS! Most companies will highlight what they consider to be the best part of the party. Pay attention to what songs are being featured during these highlights. We all know that current “trendy” songs can get crowd involvement up, so it is easy to feature that in a highlight video. If there is one song played throughout various clips, ask to see the real live footage during your meeting.

Myth #2; Flashing Lights Will Entertain You!

Let’s be honest, lights certainly make the show better, but the DJs/MCs make the show, NOT the lights. Lights can mesmerize you for sure, but they will NOT entertain you for very long. Don’t be fooled by the flashing lights you see in videos. Consider them the dessert, not the main entree. One way you can tell that the DJ/MC entertainment is lacking is the company’s primary focus on lighting. Some companies will feature 2-5 videos of the same event with the main focus being their lights.

Myth #3; Video Screens With Animations Are The Way To Go!

Animations are basically moving graphics on screen. If the screen is too small, the animations won’t matter. You MUST have entertaining DJs/MCs to make the students happy and wanting to come back to the events. At DPD we have other features for on screen entertainment besides just scrolling text and moving graphics.

Again the emphasis here is on the fact that video screens and animations on those screens will not entertain your students. Sure it may garner excitement for the event, but if the DJ/MC cannot deliver, you will have very disappointed students.

Myth #4; Dubious Claims of Performance…

Some school DJ companies claim they have done certain things in the market and that they are the best. If they say they have increased ticket sales for a school, ask for references. When speaking to that reference be sure to ask how much the DJ company increased their ticket sales by (I.e. percentage, number of tickets, etc.). Be sure to ask which years such increases occurred. Also ask them how the DJ company promoted the event.

The Verdict

One thing that we would like to stress in this article is that you MUST have the best DJs and MCs that know how to rock the party the ENTIRE night and not during one or two songs featured on YouTube or Vimeo. Before spending money on a company, make them prove their worth by performing a demo to your committee. If they cannot meet you and/or your committee and show off their skills, how can they entertain a larger number of students at your school event?

If you want REAL entertainment beyond the lights and video screens, take the DPD Challenge.
